What are SIPs?

We’ve listed some benefits of building with SIPs.

SIPs (Structural insulated panels) are a high-performance building system for residential and commercial construction. The panels consist of an insulating foam core compressed between two structural facings, typically OSB oriented strand board.

  • Energy-efficient structures with low energy costs

  • Rapid building assembly time and therefore lower labour costs

  • High performing thermal structures with a low carbon footprint

  • Less waste and timber usage than conventional building methods

  • Extremely strong structures that provide longevity

  • Panel precision allowing for a simple build and straightforward project management

More about our SIP Panels

  • The SIPs panels we install are CE and BBA Certified, extensively tested for Structural, Acoustic and Thermal properties, including Fire Resistance. This verifies that they have been tested, assessed and certified suitable for use within a building project framework. Only buildings created with BBA accredited SIPs are usually accepted for mortgages, so it’s important to check.

The panels are manufactured with a rigid Polyurethane (PUR) core of high thermal performance insulation, injected between two outer skins of oriented strand board (OSB/3).

This means when they are used for buildings, not only are they super-insulated, but they are also structurally extremely strong and durable.

The panels are easily integrated with a wide range of construction materials as a load or non-load bearing structure. The combined structure and insulation reduces wall thicknesses, maximising internal build space without compromise.

  • SIPs are ideal for domestic housing, hotel and leisure facilities or commercial structures. They are the best solution for applications where thermal efficiency is desired and depending on how they are used, they can out perform most passive house measures for low-energy use.

You can manufacture an entire building using SIPs. SIP panels are a composite material, made of sustainably sourced timber with an organic insulating core. This composition gives an extremely high strength to weight ratio which allows for large sections of your buildings to be fitted at once. The result is a structure that is extremely strong, energy-efficient and cost-effective.

SIPs are considered by many to be the future of house-building, so you’ll be staying ahead of the game with a SIPs-built space. You don’t need any further insulation for the living space to stay warm in winter and cool in the summer, with very little or no electrical heating or cooling. That means very low energy bills.

Our aim is to provide you with easy to follow and relevant technical information. Whilst we are confident the data will help you specify, design and build your project using our SIPs, we always encourage further conversations around your projects specific requirements. This can make the most of our panels capabilities, allowing us to tailor our technical details with a project specific guarantee. Its good to talk during the early stages of your project.
